All about water baptism
What is water baptism?
Water baptism is a sacred ordinance established by Jesus Christ for those who have repented of their sins and placed their faith in Him as Savior and Lord.
In the Church of God, we practice believer’s baptism by immersion. Baptism does not save us; rather, it is an outward expression of the inward transformation that has already taken place through faith in Jesus Christ.
“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

Why are we baptized?
To Obey Jesus Christ
Jesus instructed His followers to make disciples and baptize them. Water baptism is an important act of obedience for every believer.
To Publicly Declare Our Faith
Baptism provides an opportunity to openly testify that we have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and have chosen to follow Him.
To Identify With Christ
Immersion beautifully symbolizes our identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Going beneath the water represents death to the old life, while rising from the water represents our new life in Christ.
To Celebrate New Life
Baptism declares that through Christ we have been made new and are committed to walking in obedience to Him.
Does Water Baptism Save Us?
Salvation is God’s gift of grace, received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Water baptism does not earn salvation or replace personal faith in Christ. Rather, baptism follows conversion as an obedient and public testimony of the salvation we have received.

Our Practice
As part of the Church of God movement headquartered in Anderson, Indiana, we recognize three ordinances taught and modeled in Scripture:
- Water Baptism
- The Lord’s Supper
- Feet Washing
These ordinances are meaningful expressions of Christian faith, obedience, humility, fellowship, and our relationship with Jesus Christ.
