Who is the Church of God?
The Church of God movement has five core convictions that define the church’s identity and practice: the absolute lordship and supremacy of Jesus Christ; the holiness, transformative power, and work of the Holy Spirit; the importance of Christian unity and the church’s calling to promote it; the supremacy and authority of the Bible as the ultimate guide for faith and conduct; and the Great Commandments to love God wholeheartedly and love one’s neighbor as oneself.
National Association of the Churgh Of God
The National Association of the Church of God (NACOG) is focused on supporting and connecting churches, pastors, ministries, missionaries, and educational partners within the Church of God movement. It provides support for leadership, ministries, resources, upcoming events, conventions, camp meeting, missionary work, and financial endeavors. We are grateful to be supported by this National organization.

Rosilynn Hatter Noble
Reverend Rosilynn “Roz” Noble came to Seigle in August 2005 and has been actively involved in various capacities. In 2007 Rev. Roz was elevated to executive pastor. In October 2023, she accepted the assignment to become interim pastor.
Rev. Roz is originally from the Midwest. She grew up under the leadership of her father, Pastor Timothy Hatter (deceased). When she married Willie Noble in 1981, they moved to Atlanta, GA. where they served for almost 20 years at Community Church of God under the wisdom and teaching of Pastor Rudolph Smith (deceased). The Noble family (Willie, Adrienne and Alexia) relocated back to the St. Louis area where she answered her call to ministry. As part of her journey in ministry, she served at Richmond Heights First Church of God, as assistant minister to her father. Rev. Roz also recognizes the impact of two women pastors on her journey; Pastor Margaret V. Lee and Pastor Norma Nelson (deceased), who permitted her to preach to their congregations in her early days. Their level of serving left a great impression of how women in ministry make a difference. She was ordained in Missouri in May 2005.
2 Timothy 2:15 instructs us to study to show approval. With this as a guiding Scripture, Rev Roz completed her Master of Arts in Christian Ministry at Anderson University School of Theology (Anderson, Indiana) in August 2018. As a retired educator, Rev. Roz understands the impact of knowledge and she continues to study, learn, grow, and teach.
Rev. Roz has a heart for our children. Therefore, she has very effectively implemented “Kairos” time. Children benefit from biblical stories connected with the 21st Century. She’s a master storyteller and they are totally engaged each time they have an opportunity to participate.

Celebrating 122 Years of God’s Faithfulness
Seigle Avenue First Church of God
(formerly Greenville Church of God)
1904 – present
On this, our 122nd Church Anniversary, we take a moment to remember the road God has walked with us. For one hundred and twenty-two years, this body of believers has stood as a testimony to His faithfulness across generations.
Our story begins in 1904, when the Greenville Church of God (Charlotte, NC) was organized. That same year, W. C. Doe and G. P. Sullivan organized its first Sunday School and Prayer Service and helped introduce a small group to the doctrine of holiness that would come to define this congregation. With no building of their own in those early years, believers worshipped wherever they could gather: in homes, on street corners, and by invitation in other churches’ sanctuaries. The members rented a house on Grove Street for four dollars a week, and by 1908 the congregation had outgrown that location. With the help of ministers and members, they built their first permanent home at 1203 North Johnson Street, known as the Greenville Community.
In the first five years, before a pastor was formally appointed, the faithful few carried the ministry themselves. Deacons and trustees such as Sylvester Ingram, Maggie Cochran, and G. P. Sullivan shared the responsibilities of leadership, with Sylvester Ingram and Moore Marsh usually leading worship services, until G. R. Dixon was named the church’s first pastor in 1909.
Through the decades that followed, the church was shaped by pastors who each left their mark: G. R. Dixon, who built the first church; James McClure, who remodeled and expanded it over more than two decades; and W. D. Bailey, under whose thirty-year leadership the congregation made its defining relocation to Seigle Avenue.
That relocation came in 1972 as part of the Model Cities Program. Therefore, hundreds of families, churches, and businesses relocated across Charlotte, and Greenville Church of God became the Seigle Avenue First Church of God. Its first service at 1620 Seigle Avenue was held on Sunday, August 13, 1972. What began as a building purchased with cash but bare on the inside became, over time, a fully renovated home: new flooring and pews, a steeple raised in 2002, a widened frontage and plaza built to meet a changing Belmont community in the late 2000s, and continual investment in the sound, media, and accessibility of the space.
Across more than a century, this congregation has been shepherded by a succession of faithful pastors and ministers, each answering God’s call for their own season. The following have carried that mantle of pastoral leadership since 1909:

Ministry has always moved alongside the building. Vacation Bible School began in 1947 under Hattie Gabriel. The Praise and Worship Team and the Kara Dance Ministry, birthed in 1996, have together been a blessing to the body of Christ. A radio broadcast carried the gospel across Charlotte airwaves for over a decade before the church shifted its outreach to the web. Fire Fest, launched in 2004, has reached hundreds of neighbors with the love of Christ. And the church’s Sunday morning worship, along with Wednesday Bible study, now reaches even further through Facebook Live.
The congregation has continued to grow in vision, ministry, and outreach. It has adopted Block Love Charlotte as its signature outreach program. Under the servant leadership of Interim Pastor Rosilyn “Roz” Noble, this congregation has never stopped reaching people for Christ. Under her leadership since 2023, there have been ten baptisms and one baby dedication. To God be the Glory.
One hundred and twenty-two years after a small group first gathered in borrowed houses and on street corners, Seigle Avenue First Church of God stands as living proof that “For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.” Psalm 100:5 (NKJV).
We give God the glory for the road He has brought us down, and we press forward, together, into all that He still has for us.
